How to choose a halal breakfast in St Albans

A practical guide to Café 1 cooked breakfasts, Desi breakfast, parathas and omelettes—all served halal and available throughout the day.

A halal breakfast without a separate small menu

All food served at Café 1 is halal. Breakfast is not restricted to one or two specially marked meat items: customers can choose across the breakfast food offer while still checking the separate labels that matter for vegetarian, allergen and other dietary needs.

This guide explains the types of breakfast available. It does not replace the live menu, because stock, prices and individual choices can change during service.

Cooked breakfast plates

A cooked breakfast suits customers who want a filling, familiar plate before work, court or a long appointment. Current combinations include ingredients such as eggs, toast, beans, hash browns, sausage and other breakfast additions. Look at the menu for the exact combination before ordering rather than assuming every plate contains the same items.

If you are changing a side or adding a modifier, check its dietary label too. A vegetarian main item can stop being vegetarian when a non-vegetarian add-on is selected, even though Café 1's overall food offer remains halal.

Desi breakfast: paratha, omelette and chana

The Desi breakfast category brings together warm paratha, Desi omelette and chana. You can choose a simpler pairing or a fuller combination, depending on appetite and the options available that day.

Chana provides a savoury chickpea choice, while the Desi omelette and paratha make this different from a standard cooked breakfast. Read our Desi breakfast guide for a closer look at the choices and how to order them.

Omelettes and quicker choices

Fresh omelettes give you another made-to-order route. The menu includes plain and filled choices such as cheese and onion, cheese and tomato, chicken and cheese, and Desi-style omelette. Some are vegetarian and some are not, so follow the current item and modifier labels.

When time is short, use online collection or ask the counter team which available breakfast will be quickest. Preparation time depends on the order queue and the food selected; an estimate is useful, but it is not a guarantee.

Is breakfast served all day?

Yes. Café 1's breakfast and Desi breakfast categories are served throughout the normal weekday opening hours, subject to availability. The café opens from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and closes at weekends and on public holidays.

For local delivery, the service window is 8:30am to 4:30pm and the delivery address must be within half a mile. Collection, takeaway and dine-in use the wider café opening window.

Before you visit

Café 1 is inside St Albans Crown Court on Bricket Road, postcode AL1 3JU. It is open to the general public as well as jurors, court visitors, legal professionals and staff. Allow for the courthouse's current entrance and security arrangements.
